The first-round NHL playoff series between the Montreal Canadiens and the Tampa Bay Lightning ended in victory for the Canadian club. Slovak defenseman Erik Černák is thus parting ways with Tampa after the end of the club season. Montreal won the series despite the fact that its forward Juraj Slafkovský is not in ideal form during the series and, according to analyses, has lost his way in terms of playing performance. Tampa, which has long counted on Slovak defenseman Černák in its lineup, could not keep pace and drew the shorter straw at the decisive moments. SITA ↗
Coach Országh of the Slovak national team is awaiting Černák's decision on his participation in the team as preparations continue for the 2026 World Championship in Switzerland. The Slovak hockey season is building toward the KHL final. The national team is preparing intensively and has set itself the goal of winning the preparatory matches against Denmark in advance, in order to be optimally tuned up for the World Championship. sport.sk ↗ teraz.sk ↗
Positive news comes regarding the prestige of Slovak hockey abroad. Montreal Canadiens' chief scout Martin Lapointe confirmed that, following the success of the Slovak under-18 team at the world championship, there is increased interest in young Slovak talents overseas. According to Lapointe, several young Slovak players are drawing the attention of NHL clubs, and their names could be called out at the upcoming draft. Slafkovský, meanwhile, according to scouting analyses, has the potential to grow, despite his current phase of performance. sport.sk ↗
