Slovak forward Juraj Slafkovský delivered an exceptional performance in the opening game of the first round of the NHL playoffs, scoring three goals and deciding Montreal Canadiens' 4:3 overtime victory on the ice of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Slafkovský joined a rare group of hockey players who have scored a hat trick in the playoffs. Montreal had not seen such a performance in 117 years, and in the entire NHL, only Peter Šťastný had scored a playoff hat trick. dennikn.sk ↗ sport.sk ↗
After the game, Slafkovský stated that the playoffs are like the Olympics, and scoring three goals in such a period is extremely difficult. The game was played on Tampa Bay's ice as part of a matchup in which other Slovak hockey players also faced off against each other on the ice. Defenseman Erik Černák started for the home team, but he could not match the success of his compatriot. sme.sk ↗ sport.pravda.sk ↗
Montreal's triumph in the series' opening game represents a key result at the start of the playoffs. Slafkovský's performance closed the discussions that had been held about his development since July 2022, when Montreal drafted Slafkovský. His hat trick in the decisive first-round game clearly demonstrates that the young Slovak forward has established himself on the team as a key player who can decide the fate of games in critical moments. sport.cz - fotbal ↗ sport.pravda.sk ↗
