Slovakia and Russia are preparing to resume talks of the intergovernmental commission for economic and scientific-technical cooperation. The commission last met before the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that its next session is scheduled for November 25 in Moscow. ta3.com ↗
According to a document obtained by the Politico portal, energy issues are expected to be among the main topics of the talks. The Slovak and Russian sides are to discuss gas and oil supplies, as well as nuclear fuel. The resumption of talks could thus open up questions of further cooperation in areas that were significantly restricted after the start of the war. hnonline.sk ↗
The session's agenda is also expected to include other sectors. Cooperation in sports, including the issue of Russian athletes, is to be discussed. Available information suggests that the talks will not focus solely on energy, but also on broader economic and technical relations between the two countries. ekonomika.pravda.sk ↗
The upcoming session represents the first resumption of the commission's activity since the period before the invasion. Its outcomes could indicate the extent to which Slovakia wants to resume practical cooperation with Moscow and which areas will be of the highest priority for both sides.
