Culture Wars release their debut Don't Speak. Twelve songs about growing up and identity
The alternative rock band Culture Wars from Texas, dominated by frontman Alex Dugan, is releasing its first record, Don't Speak. At the center of the twelve songs are personal changes, questions of identity, and at times the uncomfortable experience of growing up. Rolling Stone Deutschland ↗
Many of the tracks circle around the singer's relationship to his own past. The song Typical Ways was written after a period of personal turmoil and is, for Dugan, something like "an angry letter to my former self." Lies deals with a broken heart and lost trust. Bittersweet describes the sobering experience of adulthood: the feeling that life rarely goes according to plan, and that a person often ends up exactly where they were meant to end up anyway. With In the Morning, the tone becomes more vulnerable — the song looks back on loneliness and decisions from another phase of life. Rolling Stone Deutschland ↗
Musically, Culture Wars move between alternative and melodic rock; the dynamic songs have catchy choruses without losing the personal core of the lyrics. The band has gained attention on American rock radio in recent months — the song It Hurts made it into the Top 20 there — and has opened for, among others, Maroon 5, Keane, Wallows, and LANY. For 2026, their own tours in North America and Europe have been announced, and in July 2027 they will play three shows in Germany and one in Austria. Rolling Stone Deutschland ↗
