Karel Plíhal is returning to Slovak stages. From September 15 to 20, he will perform six concerts in six cities over six days. The autumn part of his Slovak tour follows the summer leg, after which the audience reportedly did not want to let him off the stage, according to the organizers.

The series will kick off on Tuesday, September 15 at 7:00 PM at Kino Fontána in Piešťany, continue on September 16 at Kino Baník in Prievidza, September 17 at Nová synagóga in Žilina, September 18 at GES club in Košice, and September 19 at the Jozef Gregor Tajovský Theatre in Zvolen. Plíhal's evening is difficult to describe as a mere musical performance. It is part concert, part theatre, and perhaps even part cabaret. His songs are full of poetic expression, unexpected wordplay, and subtle irony that makes the audience laugh as naturally as it moves them moments later.

"Peter Fiala, the guitarist who has accompanied me in recent years, and I really enjoy music together. I always look forward to the first song. Our concert is somewhat theatrical thanks to the songs, perhaps even a bit of cabaret," says Karel Plíhal.

This duo came about out of necessity. Focal dystonia prevented Plíhal from playing guitar, and since 2018 he has been accompanied on stage by guitarist Petr Fiala, while he himself switched to the mandolin — a deeper-tuned instrument that gives his compositions a fuller sound. Wikipedia ↗

He has been performing solo since 1983. He won the Porta festival award four times, and for his 2012 album Vzduchoprázdniny he received an Anděl award in the Folk & Country category. In addition to his own work, he has written numerous theatrical music scores for theatre and film and directed album recordings for Jaromír Nohavica and the Ebenovci brothers. Wikipedia ↗
