Record label Mute is preparing an album of extended versions of songs by Belgian electronic group Telex. The recording titled MAXI contains thirteen extended versions of their well-known songs, including Moskow Diskow, Rock Around The Clock, Euro-vision and Twist À Saint-Tropez. The Quietus ↗
The album was created when the surviving members of the band — Dan Lacksman and Michel Moers — returned to the original recordings and created new versions of some of their most famous work from them. The Quietus ↗
Telex as a project ended in 2008 following the death of Marc Moulin, the third member of the trio. In 2021 the group began a collaboration with Mute label, which started with the release of material containing two previously unreleased songs. Mute has since released remastered reissues of their albums. The Quietus ↗
Telex was formed in Brussels in 1978 and are among the pioneers of European electronic dance music. They gained wider recognition also because in 1980 they represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Euro-vision — and according to their own words, they tried to finish last, which ultimately did not work out.
Their influence on later synth-pop and techno is meanwhile much greater than their modest discography suggests. Moskow Diskow from 1979 remains one of the fundamental songs of the genre and appears in DJ sets throughout the world.
