Kós opened the final with a time of 48.18 seconds and handed off in fifth place. The decisive move came at the end when Milák, with a strong finishing sprint, led the Hungarian relay to victory. For Hungarian swimming, it was another relay success after the men's 4x200 meter freestyle relay won gold four years ago in Rome. Telex ↗

Milák also had a successful individual program in Paris. In the 100 meter butterfly, he won the European Championship title with a European record of 49.48 seconds. He was only three hundredths of a second away from American Caeleb Dressel's world record. Hubert Kós also competed in this discipline, and Frenchman Maxime Grousset won the silver medal. After the relay final, Kós spoke about fulfilling one of his great dreams. Németh expressed regret that this team could not compete at the Olympic Games or World Championships. The result confirmed the strong position of the Hungarian team at the European championships and at the same time raised the question of whether the same lineup would compete at other major events.
