Ter Stegen leaves Barcelona for one-year loan to Ajax

FC Barcelona is handling another squad change ahead of the new season. German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is leaving the Spanish club on a one-year loan to Ajax Amsterdam, where he will play during the 2026/2027 season. SITA ↗

The agreement comes after lengthy negotiations between Ajax and Barcelona. Ter Stegen, a seven-time La Liga winner and former captain of the Catalan giants, is set to get a new sporting opportunity in the Netherlands after losing his position as first-choice goalkeeper at Barcelona. Ajax described his arrival as an immediate reinforcement of the goalkeeping position. Spiegel.de ↗

Barcelona had earlier bolstered its offense with the arrival of Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund and signed winger Bisiwu from Club Bruges, who, according to Spanish media, has a contract until June 30, 2031, and is expected to start with the reserve team. Hungarian goalkeeper Áron Yaakobishvili also made his first-team debut in a preseason match against Birmingham.

Significant departures continue in the women's team. Following Salma Paralluelo, news has also emerged of Alexia Putellas's departure to London City Lionesses, which would mark the end of her long spell at Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Ferran Torres explained the controversy surrounding a cap bearing the slogan "Make Spain Great Again." The forward stated that the gesture was not related to politics but reflected his wish to see the Spanish national team reach the highest possible level. Ahead of the season, the club is thus dealing with a squad overhaul, health issues, and the media fallout from its players' public appearances.
