Strnad negotiates purchase of stake in Pirelli from Chinese Sinochem

Czech arms manufacturer and billionaire Michal Strnad is negotiating the purchase of a 14 percent stake in the Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli. He is expected to acquire the stake from the company's largest shareholder, the Chinese state-owned company Sinochem. According to available information, the value of the potential transaction would exceed one billion euros, i.e. more than 24 billion crowns. seznamzpravy.cz ↗

It is a minority stake in the well-known Italian company, which is among the most prominent brands in the European automotive industry. A potential entry by the Czech investor would also mean a weakening of the Chinese shareholder's influence in the company. According to the available information, Sinochem is described as Pirelli's largest shareholder, so the sale of part of its stake could change the balance of power among the owners. novinky.cz ↗

Reports so far describe negotiations, not a concluded agreement. It is therefore not clear whether the two sides will actually agree on the sale, nor under what final conditions the transaction would take place. For Strnad, this would represent a significant expansion beyond his current main field, the arms industry. ekonomickydenik.cz ↗

Further developments will depend on the outcome of the negotiations between Strnad and Sinochem. If the deal were to go through, it would represent one of the largest foreign investments by a Czech entrepreneur and, at the same time, a significant intervention in Pirelli's ownership structure. hnonline.sk ↗
