Ryanair loses dispute in Austria over multiple fees

Austria's supreme court ruled that several additional fees charged by the airline Ryanair violate the law. The verdict concerns fees charged to passengers for flight-related services and opens up the possibility of claiming refunds. hnonline.sk ↗

According to available information, the court assessed the fee provisions in the company's carriage conditions. It declared 14 of the 15 examined clauses, or more than ten fees, impermissible. Among them was a 55-euro fee for airport check-in and a surcharge for a small child. The case was handled by Austrian authorities in connection with consumer protection. ekonomika.sme.sk ↗

The ruling concerns Austria, but it is also drawing attention among passengers from Slovakia who use Ryanair flights from Vienna or other nearby airports. The verdict may be particularly important for people who were charged similar fees when booking or before departure. pravda.sk ↗

The dispute over fees comes at a time when Ryanair is also facing tension in the area of labor relations. Union representatives of pilots in Europe are pointing to a lack of trust in management following the dismissal of three pilots in Germany. Contract negotiations concern pilots in Spain, France, Portugal, and Ireland. Further developments will depend on the progress of passenger claims and on negotiations with the unions. ekonomika.sme.sk ↗
