US scraps emissions limits for coal and gas power plants

EPA chief Lee Zeldin stated that the change is meant to support energy production and reduce costs for industry. According to the agency's figures, businesses could save more than $300 billion. The administration also claims that removing the emissions limits will help increase energy production in the United States.
The rules introduced under the Biden administration were meant to limit the release of greenhouse gases from power plants burning coal and natural gas. Their repeal is another step by the Trump administration in dismantling environmental regulations and supporting fossil fuels.
Environmental organizations have criticized the decision and plan to challenge it in court. Experts and conservation groups warn that scrapping the limits could complicate the United States' efforts to curb pollution and fight climate change. Further developments will depend on the legal disputes and on how the new rules translate into the operation of power plants in individual states.
