The Australian band The Church will release their new album Lacuna via Cooking Vinyl on October 30. It was announced with the single Western, backed with the B-side Martian Skyline; before that, in November 2025, the track Sacred Echoes (Part Two) was released. Western grew out of Steve Kilbey's childhood memories, more precisely out of the television westerns he watched as a boy. "It's a story without head or tail that jumps from one side to the other, carefree and uncomplicated," is how the bassist, singer and founder of the band describes it. "When I was a kid, there was nothing on TV but westerns, so I let it all sink in — and this is what came out of it." OndaRock ↗
Yet the band is still defined to this day by a single song: Under the Milky Way from 1988. Far Out Magazine ranks it among typical cases of the "one-hit curse" — a song that made the band famous while at the same time pushing the rest of its catalogue into the background. Far Out Magazine ↗
