Dispute over Pavel's trip to the NATO summit continues over the mandate
Videos
The Constitutional Court had already earlier ordered the government, by way of a preliminary measure, to include Pavel among the summit's participants. Macinka insists that the head of the Czech delegation will be Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, not the president. According to new information, Babiš and Macinka are to fly to Turkey earlier, while Pavel is to travel on another government aircraft from Kbely. The Castle stated that responsibility for the increased costs due to using two aircraft lies with the government. ekonomickydenik.cz ↗
Former president Václav Klaus, once Macinka's mentor, has also previously entered the debate. He described the Constitutional Court's approach as activism and an attempt to rewrite the separation of powers. A new STEM/MARK poll for Seznam Zprávy showed that in the dispute, 46 percent of voters side with Pavel and 27 percent side with Macinka. forum24.cz ↗
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Babiš said he had urged Macinka not to wear himself out in clashes with the president. The minister's external advisor, Pavel Šik, apologized for spreading false information about an alleged meeting between journalist Světlana Witowská, presidential advisor Petr Kolář, and Constitutional Court justice Pavel Šámal. Further developments will determine the practical arrangements for Czech participation in the summit and the continuation of the jurisdictional dispute between the government and the Castle. seznamzpravy.cz ↗
