American skier Lindsey Vonn has surprisingly been included in the elite US national team for the upcoming season. The American Ski Federation named her among 17 nominated skiers, although her early return to competitive slopes remains highly unlikely. STVR (Minúta po minúte) ↗
Forty-one-year-old Vonn is still recovering from the effects of a serious fall during the February Olympic downhill. After the accident she had to undergo emergency surgery aimed at preventing amputation of her leg. According to available information, at least one more surgical procedure still awaits her. n-tv ↗
The nomination therefore came as a surprise, since the experienced skier's health condition continues to significantly limit her. Her inclusion in the team, however, suggests that the US national team still counts on her and leaves her the possibility of attempting a comeback. tnlive.sk (Markíza) ↗
Vonn has already ended her career in the past, but she suffered serious injuries both before the Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo and directly at them. Despite this, she has once again appeared in the nomination for the elite US team. sport.cz ↗
Neither the date of her possible return nor the extent of her participation in the upcoming season is known yet. Her start in the near term remains almost ruled out given her ongoing treatment and planned surgeries. Der Standard ↗
