Who played saxophone for the Traveling Wilburys? It was Jim Horn from The Wrecking Crew
According to Far Out Magazine, the Traveling Wilburys are the only band in the world to have had five rhythm guitarists — and even though its members wanted to hide behind pseudonyms, several other musicians always moved around the group. Tom Petty admitted that drummer Jim Keltner would have deserved full membership, though he himself wanted to remain anonymous and be a silent member behind the drums. Far Out Magazine ↗
The saxophone parts belonged to Jim Horn, a longtime member of the studio crew The Wrecking Crew, whose résumé, according to the magazine, speaks for itself. They serve, for example, the song Heading for the Light, in which George Harrison returned to a traditional pop song and, instead of slide guitar, let a horn section arch through with breath. The guitar solo on She's My Baby was played by Gary Moore — according to Far Out, one of the most underrated of his career. Dave Stewart would have made it into the lineup too, had he not been on tour at the time; his house at least served as the studio. Far Out Magazine ↗
