Germany's national football team has lost Lennart Karl shortly before the World Cup. After Germany's 4:0 win over Finland, Karl was considered one of the players pushing for a bigger role in Julian Nagelsmann's lineup. In the penultimate test match in Mainz, Deniz Undav scored twice, while Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala each scored once. According to German media, Karl was expected to bring dynamism to the team's offense, but after his injury he had to go to the hospital and his tournament plans came to an end. The German federation subsequently confirmed that Assan Ouédraogo would be additionally called up to the squad. For Nagelsmann, this is a disruption to preparations, as Karl was among the young players expected to have an impact on the team's play. The team had already been dealing with a situation in goal as well. Manuel Neuer returned to training, but will not yet play against the USA in Chicago, as the coaching staff does not want to take any risks. Deutschlandfunk ↗

Germany is continuing its preparations in the United States after departing from the national team's home base. The match against the USA is meant to be the last test before the start of the tournament, and ahead of the opening match against Curaçao, the coach will have to adjust his plans without one of the most impressive young players of the preparation period.
