According to the magazine, it remains one of the most powerful anti-war songs ever — from the flowing guitar lines at the start, through John Fogerty's rough voice, to a chorus sung in bars and played in films. The paradox is that out of the band's entire extensive catalog, this one came together the easiest: it was pulled together "in about twenty minutes." Carlos Santana, who opened for CCR from 1967 onward, recalls the band by saying: "I always loved the power, the commitment and the simplicity in every song he did. All those songs were mega hits." On SuperMusic.cz, CCR has seventy-seven songs listed. Fortunate Son is there with chords, but the most-searched-for remains Have You Ever Seen the Rain, with more than thirty thousand views.
Creedence Clearwater Revival operated in their classic lineup for less than five years, yet the year 1969 alone brought them three albums — Bayou Country, Green River, and Willy and the Poor Boys. Most of the songs the magazine included in its top ten come from precisely this period.
