Blue Bendy announce second album. Dragonslayer arrives after a breakup and hiatus
London art-rock sextet Blue Bendy have announced their second album, One Day This Will All Be Lore, out on January 29th on an exclusive Dinked Edition vinyl as well as digitally. Alongside the announcement they released the single "Dragonslayer" — it follows on from the debut So Medieval, but adds a more direct melodic edge to the band's typically winding approach to guitar music. "I was trying to subvert Arthurian chivalry in a modern context," explains frontman Arthur Nolan. "To look at nationalist mythology wrapped up in a tragicomically romantic pop song — and at the fantasies every musician tells themselves about fame when they live inside their own head." The album arrives after a difficult period. After the release of So Medieval, the band had to cancel their UK tour after a single show — Nolan was unable to continue due to problems with alcoholism. Two founding members subsequently left, and Blue Bendy went on hiatus. They returned with a new lineup: joining Nolan are Dina Willcock on bass, Tristan Petsola on drums, Joseph Nash on guitar, Olivia Morgan on keys and Oliver Chester-Nolan on guitar. They gradually made their way back to stages through festival appearances and headline shows, alongside work on the new record. DIY Magazine ↗
The debut So Medieval was released in April 2024. Alongside the band, guitarist Joseph Nash also runs a solo project, Dying 4, built almost entirely around electric guitar and programmed drums. Lyrics for three Blue Bendy songs have been added on SuperMusic.
