According to information from German media, the agreement opens the way to coalition negotiations between the three parties. However, their start still needs to be approved by the parties' organs. The Greens are to decide on their possible participation in the future state government on Monday, when 49 delegates of the state committee will vote on the proposal. Deutschlandfunk ↗

The parties planned a joint statement on Saturday afternoon, in which they were to inform about the results of the exploratory talks. The subject of the negotiations was the formation of a government in Berlin after the elections to the chamber of deputies. A coalition of the SPD, Greens and Die Linke would unite three political parties on the left side of the Berlin political spectrum. Tagesschau ↗

The exploratory talks continued despite differences between the parties and previous complications. As late as Friday it was not certain whether they could be concluded over the weekend. The latest agreement therefore represents an important step forward in the process of forming the Berlin government. Tagesspiegel ↗

The parties' bodies will decide on the next steps. If they approve the agreement, the three parties will begin formal coalition negotiations, which are expected to result in an agreement on a joint government program and the distribution of responsibilities in the future Berlin government.
