V novembri 2022 vzbudila pozornosť, keď verejnosti sprístupnila konverzačného robota ChatGPT. Jej ďalším produktom je DALL-E určený na generovanie obrázkov na základe vstupných slovných parametrov a generátor videa Sora. Medzi zakladateľov spoločnosti patria Sam Altman, Elon Musk a Andrej Karpathy.
