Tehran officially confirms deaths of security chief Larijani and Basij commander Soleimani

Iran's Supreme National Security Council officially confirmed overnight on Wednesday the death of its secretary Ali Larijani, who was killed by Israel in a nighttime airstrike. Along with Larijani, his son Morteza Larijani, the head of his office Alireza Bayat, and several members of his personal security detail also died. Al Jazeera ↗
Larijani was considered the de facto ruler of Iran following the death of Supreme Leader Khamenei on February 28. Before the war, he served as speaker of parliament and a key adviser on security and nuclear affairs. Many observers considered him a future Supreme Leader of the country. The Revolutionary Guards simultaneously confirmed the death of Basij paramilitary force commander Gholamreza Soleimani. Soleimani was killed in an Israeli strike on a makeshift tent headquarters. Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that other commanders were also killed in the strike on Soleimani, but did not give specific names.
