The singer and composer celebrated his eightieth birthday on August 13, and just a day later launched the jubilee tour at the sold-out Krásný ztráty Live festival in Všetice, of which he has been a long-time patron. The Karlín evening is meant to be the symbolic peak of the entire series.
He arrives in Karlín in exceptional form. His latest studio album Ostraka received both gold and platinum certification from IFPI, became Album of the Year at the Anděl Awards, and Prokop himself won the award for Solo Artist of the Year. He is now concluding this successful period with the concert album Live 80, which captures the atmosphere of last year's Christmas concert and will have its Prague premiere at this very evening. Alongside his biggest hits such as The Battle of Charles Bridge, College Yesterday, and Blues about Swallowed Words, compositions from Ostraka will also be performed.
"The Christmas concert at Forum Karlín is a celebration for me every year. It is above all a meeting with people with whom I have been sharing music for many years, and I am delighted that different generations of musicians and listeners gather here. This year will have an even stronger meaning for me for the entire evening, because through it I will symbolically close the year that was entirely marked by my eightieth birthday," says Michal Prokop.
The program will traditionally be supplemented by a number of guests. Joining Framus Five on stage will be the vocal group Yellow Sisters, percussionist Imran Musa Zangi with his son, musician Filip Zangi — all of whom also participated in the recording of the Live 80 album — and also the trio NOP consisting of guitarist and singer Norbi Kovacs, cellist and singer Jaroslav Olin Nejezchleba, and violinist Pavel Fischer. Performing alongside them will be singer and lyricist Jana Infeldová.
