The Prague sextet FoxO released their second studio album EVA on September 11. On it, the band moves between indie, folk, jazz, rock and pop, building on strong Czech lyrics, strings and the live energy that doesn't need to be hidden behind effects. "Eva grew out of the joy and effort of all six players and one heaven-sent producer. Even though the themes of the songs may sometimes seem weightier, each one breathes reconciliation, kindness and the hope that everything may have some higher meaning," the band invites listeners. The recording follows up on the debut ADAM, which earned good reviews and mentions among music media tips. According to bandleader Martin Čermák, the title was clear from the start: "Adam means nothing without Eva – he is an inhuman being." However, the recording method changed. While the debut was created without bass and entirely on electronic pads, for Eva the band reached for wooden instruments, added a five-string jazzy bass and classic drums, and recorded the basis together the way they play it live. Singer Wiky recorded the vocals under the guidance of his singing teacher Marta Šimůnková. "I admit the first vocal takes were far too polished, considering how nicely unkempt the band sounded. I asked Marta to guide me on how to adjust the technique and the feel so the vocal would fit the whole better," the frontman describes. GREGI.NET ↗
The album opens with the song Tvoje hvězdy, which was released as the first single, followed by Zpátky do dnů and Vrány. Together with the album, the band released a visualizer for the track Můj svět. Over the past few years, FoxO have built a reputation as a strong live act, having performed at, among others, the United Islands of Prague festival and on the JazzDock stage. YouTube — FoxO ↗
