Spanish Love Songs Wanted to Make Their Own Born In The U.S.A. What Came Out Was the Angry Future Nausea

American band Spanish Love Songs has announced their fifth album, Future Nausea, and released the first single, "Good American." The record comes out on November 6 via Pure Noise Records, and after its release the band will head out on a European tour early next year. Visions ↗

For the album, the band set out to turn heartland rock nostalgia into a forward-looking perspective. "When I started working on the new record," says singer Dylan Slocum, "I told everyone I wanted to simply make a fat rock album — our version of 'Born In The U.S.A.,' if that were possible. But as much as I wanted to write a major-key album, I wanted it to be as politically angry as possible. More angry than sad." Visions ↗

The first single delivers on that promise: "Good American" sheds light on the miserable situation many former war veterans find themselves in. It's a story about what the country promises and what it ultimately delivers. Visions ↗

The Los Angeles-based band has been active since 2013, and their songs are built on lyrics about economic insecurity, mental health, and a generation struggling to catch up with its own expectations. You can find the lyrics to three of their songs on SuperMusic.
