Smer Rejects Nepotism Claims Over Ján Richter's Son at Transpetrol
According to Smer-SD, Richter's son succeeded in a proper selection process and met the required criteria. The party also stated that it would not comment on political statements or their interpretations. The opposition movement Slovensko claims that Richter's son earns 15,000 euros a month at Transpetrol. The topic drew attention after Prime Minister Robert Fico defended the income of his own son, Michal Fico, at Smer's party agency. Refresher.sk ↗
In defending his son, Fico rejected accusations of nepotism, arguing that Michal Fico does not hold a leadership position in a state-owned enterprise. The opposition subsequently pointed to the case of Richter's son at Transpetrol, and Progresívne Slovensko called for a transparent selection process for the supervisory boards of state-owned companies. teraz.sk ↗
At today's press conference on the topic of an apology, Prime Minister Robert Fico also addressed the opposition's attacks on people close to Smer-SD. He apologized to his colleagues for the opposition's actions, but refused to apologize to the Šimečka family. The issue of appointments to positions in state-owned enterprises thus remains part of the political dispute between the coalition and the opposition. SITA ↗
